The Albuquerque Civic Chorus (ACC) is a true community chorus of more than 80 singers with diverse backgrounds and musical experience. We're united by our joy in singing and sharing music with the public. A no-audition-required group, we welcome adult singers (age *16+) who share our passion for music.
In 1934, a group of singers called the Albuquerque Choral Society informally organized to practice and perform choral music in Albuquerque. Among its earliest directors were Dr. Kurt Frederick of the University of New Mexico and Dr. Hans Lang, under whose direction the chorus sang with the Civic Symphony Orchestra. Subsequent directors have included Dr. Charles Woodul, Roland deRose, Harry R. Hook, Michael Cooke and Verallen Kleinhenz, Gary Wayne Pyland and Renato Estacio-Burdick.
It was nearly 20 years later in 1953 that we were renamed the Albuquerque Civic Chorus (ACC). Ours is a true community chorus of more than 80 singers with diverse backgrounds, occupations, ages, and musical experience. Only sharing one key common ground: We love to sing.
We offer Spring and Winter Holiday concerts programs at a variety of venues, including our home church: First Christian Church. We've also performed for civic functions, at schools, with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and Albuquerque Opera Theater productions.
Beyond Albuquerque
We were invited to and participated in a choral festival at Carnegie Hall in May of 2007. Most recently we collaborated with the Taos Community Chorus in Spring of 2024. We continue to be invited to participate in choral events in and around the Albuquerque and greater New Mexico area.
