The Albuquerque Civic Chorus (ACC) is a true community chorus of more than 50 singers with diverse backgrounds and musical experience. We're united by our joy in singing and sharing music with the public. A no-audition-required group, we welcome adult singers (age 17+) who share our passion for music.
In 1934, a group of singers called the Albuquerque Choral Society informally organized to practice and perform choral music in Albuquerque. Among its earliest directors were Dr. Kurt Frederick of the University of New Mexico and Dr. Hans Lang, under whose direction the chorus sang with the Civic Symphony Orchestra. Subsequent directors have included Dr. Charles Woodul, Roland deRose, Harry R. Hook, Michael Cooke and Verallen Kleinhenz, Gary Wayne Pyland and Renato Estacio-Burdick.
Renamed the Albuquerque Civic Chorus (ACC) in 1953, we're a true community chorus of more than 80 singers with diverse backgrounds, musical experience, ages, and occupations. We offer Spring and Winter Holiday concerts programs at a variety of venues. We've also performed for civic functions, at schools, with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and Albuquerque Opera Theater productions.
We were invited to and participated in a choral festival at Carnegie Hall in May of 2007. We continue to be invited to participate in choral events in and around the Albuquerque and greater New Mexico area.
Do you sing along with the songs you love? Do you find yourself belting out those favorite tunes when they come on in the car? You may just be passionate about music! To tell you the truth, most everyone loves music. How do you feel when you sing? Do you smile, cry, dance? The dictionary defines passion as "strong and barely controllable emotion." Music speaks to your soul. It actually has an effect on your physical and emotional well being, so sing out loud, and embrace the passion! Then join us and share it with others!
